I have a 1990 Bravo 1 drive and would like to install anodes on the ends of the trim cylinders like I see on many other boats. I've inpected the caps on the ends of the cylinder and there are 4 holes that measure slightly under 1/4 inch. No threaded holes. What gives??

Those 4 holes are used for a spanner wrench to remove the end cap. Anodes on the trim cylinders didn't exist back then, so there wasn't any threaded holes.

Re: Trim cylinder anodes

I was told by a local dealer that two holes were spanner holes and the other two should be threaded even on a 1990. My guess is that he didn't know....he was a young guy so he is thinking more recent even though I mentioned it was a 1990.

Mine is the same way, just 4 holes. I've been told that when I rebuild them I'll get threads with the new caps and be able to use the anodes I bought.

-Nate

No. The holes are near a 1/4 inch in diameter and the mounting screws for the anodes are 10-32's. You'd have to drill 2 more holes and tap but there is only about a 1/4 inch depth so a special tap is needed to do the threads.

If you don't leave the boat in the water for 6 months, it doesn't matter anyway.
