I used a dab of grease on the 2nd cyl to hold them, and that worked. But interested if you can dig up your technique!

Trim ram rebuild.jpg
all done
I took apart a spare pair because my trim ram rods were getting pitted and the end loops were all rotted too, so I used the ram rod from my spares in my original cylinders and did not have to disturb any of the hydraulic lines.
This Cobra style cylinder is what early Volvo SXs had before they changed to the later style with the line for the down function built into the body of the ram.
Another note when you want to refill the pump, do it with the cylinders in the up position, otherwise when you remove the plug the tilt n trim fluid will squirt out! At least on the old style OMC pump that's how it is.
I think it took about 4-5 up and down cycles to bleed out the air and it's worked great for 2 seasons. I did this in May '24, believe it or not those were the original seals etc on the cyls which at that time were 34 years old!
