Trim cylinder removal

I noticed when looking at how to remove my outdrive that the cylinders are not attached via a standard nut. Rather they are attached via e-ring clips, a flat washer, and a bushing that attaches to the anchor pin. This has me a little confused on removal. I tried to attach a picture from the service manual (#14) but I'm having trouble. Anyways, its page 2a-4 of the service manual. How do these clips get removed? Thanks

I have a pair of special e-ring pliers that makes it amazingly easy to remove e-rings, as one would expect of the correct tool for the job.
However a couple of screwdrivers usually does the job too, press on both end tabs of the ring simultaneously and it should fly off, literally.
Sometimes you can pry them out by inserting a small screwdriver in the "middle" of the ring, if you get what I mean.

Ok - so you basically pry them apart. Got it. I would imagine that reinstalling them is the same. Pry apart then push over the anchor pin? Thanks

Ayuh,... There ain't much Pryin',...
I just slip the end of a regular 1/4" screwdriver into a slot, 'n they Pop right off...
They Pop back on with nothin' but Thumb pressure...
