trim gauge....has power...only moves to up position

It does not work correctly. It is getting power because when I turn it on it always goes to up. Of course, I know this is not correct. What type of sensor should I be looking for? I have some experience dealing with certain up and down indications. Then I had a manual. I know, I know I should have already got one, but I'm lazy and cheap. <br /><br />I have a 79 mark twain with a 305 and a pre alpha mercruiser stern drive. Any help I would appreciate.

Cody<br />A good manual will save you time, work and money in a short time.<br /><br />Don't know your motor but I would be checking the down switch and solenoid.

Kick the drive towards the port side and look inside the gimble housing (outside of boat). Look for some (lamb cord is the best way to describe it) black wire. My bet the insolation on it is come off and is shorting out. Your trim sender is at the pivot point of the drive under the plastic cover (starboard side). Remove the two screws and clean the wiper.<br /><br />Just so you will know the port side sending unit is the trim limit sender.

Better Idea ?????<br />Take the Gauge out,+ Throw it Away....<br />Put a Clock in that Hole.....<br />At Least, Then that Space would serve a Purpose...
