Hi Guys, We just purchased our first boat with a Volvo power plant and I see where there has been issues with the trim system on the Volvos that have the pump mounted on the outside of the transom. I was talking with a boating friend that has a ?06? 5.0 with a single prop outdrive, but his pump is inside the boat and has not had an issue. We go on a long trip each year and the boat he was in 2 years ago was a 13 model Chaparral that had the DPS drive and he had a hose get rubbed through and lost the trim system. Just wondering if anybody has the newer model DPS that has had an issue and what it took to fix it, also is there a modification to the design that could be done to prevent future problems? Mine is a ?11? 5.7 300 GIC with a DPS-A with no problem. Thanks.

Never saw a Volvo with the trim pump mounted outside, actually never saw any trim pump mounted outside???
Pics??
The hose rubbing through has been a problem on some motors.
Most owners don't look for trouble until it happens.

The only problem that I have been aware of with the external pumps are of water intrusion from a bad seal or leaks from the hose ends. Any rubbing, pinching of the hoses simply should be related to improper routing of the hoses. there are plastic hose clips placed throughout the system to keep them out of the way. You might get up close and check movement while having someone trim the outdrive up and down to make sure everything stays clear.

Jerry, the SX-A and DPS-A drives, 2006-current, have exterior mounted trim pumps.

They are notorious for having a leaking cover, but no known issue with hoses rubbing. Hoses can easily be rerouted to avoid pinching and rubbing, and like Brich said there are plastic clips designed to keep the hoses in place and out of the way.
