I have done a search for information about trim limit switches and have found some answers. I do still have a couple pf questions.
I have a 1989 Maxum 2000SR, Merc 305/230HP, Alpha one drive with power trim XD.
Thanks to everyone here I replaced the water impeller and water cover, which was leaking. I put the drive together and saw 2 things.
1. The trim limit switch wiring, port side, has the insulation deteriorated going in to the switch, wiring exposed. On the outside of the switch are the letters "T.L."
2. There is a hose, looks like a water hose, which comes form the transom and clamps on to the drive. The exposed rubber looks to be dry rotting so it will have to be replaced.
I am guessing the trim limit and sender switches will need to be replaced. I can see where the wiring runs through the transom. How difficult is it to run the wiring for the new switches?
My boat does not have a trim gauge, never had it. It looks like the sender wiring is part of the harness and runs to the dash (Merc wiring diagram). I tried to find a trim gauge for a 1989 but can only find gauges starting for years in the 90's. Do the years pre-90's not have trim gauges? Can I install a trim gauge?
The rubber hose, would that be the water supply hose? Can this hosed be replaced with the drive on? I could not find it in the sterndrive manual.
Sorry this is so long!
Thanks again for everyones help!
