Trim Motor causing power loss?

While under load if I try to adjust trim the engine surges down drastically losing major power while the trim motor runs. I believe this is due to an excessive motor draw from the trim motor. Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 (Late 1990's trim assembly)

1. Thoughts on this?
2. How are the SEI aftermarket assemblies?

Is it in full down/ full up position when you are doing this? Using the trim only button...... If so... yes it will put a drag on the engine. If you have no trim gauge you have to get the feel for it.....

classic symptom of bad battery cables and connections to the starter and or block ground.

The trim pump pulls in excess of 75 amps. If cables are not great, (engine and trim system), the voltage can get pulled down pretty severely.

I wouldn't worry about the trim motor. If it isn't blowing the inline fuse, it's healthy.
