trim motor failure

Is it common for this electric motors to fail? Mine would always trim down no problem but up it was washy. It finally stopped up all together now so i pulled the whole assembly out to check it out. With the motor by its self i hooked it to a battery and it spins good one way but nothing the other. This is the stock unit for 89 so im not sure if its just that time or if i have bigger issues.

Nope , just a sticking brush in the holder, remove the 4 screws , 2 screws for the brush holder, remove armature, polish and clean with Brake-Kleen type product, clean brush holders AND VERY LIGHTLY using 600wet/dry paper do the brushes.page 5A-23 in your messages

Thanks for the help. I took it all apart and the brushes looked good. After putting it back together it did work in both directions. I cleaned it all out and who knows.... typical boat crap as i am finding.
