Hey everyone.. My name is Rusty and I'm new to this forum. Recently I bought a 2003 Bayliner 185 with a Alpha One ser. # OM43777 outdrive. Bought it last week and broke it this week. Haven't even got it wet yet : ( The problem is that the outdrive only comes part way up, say 20% or just under 1/2 as indicated on the trim meter gauge. While initially checking out the boat, I raised and lowered the outdrive 4-5 times and it worked fine, but yesterday I did something dumb. I began to raise the front of the trailer before raising the outdrive, causing the outdrive to push into the concrete floor of my garage. I quickly lowered the front of the trailer and then tested the power trim.. It would only come up part way but raised fully after 4-5 tries. Then, after an engine oil change, I again attempted to raise the outdrive and this time it took 8 attempts. Did the pressure I put on the outdrive cause some componant to fail or was this pre-existing and/or a result of it's lack of recent use? I've spent some time searching the forum for this issue but only find posts about drives that won't go up or won't go down. None that only go up part way so I thought I'd ask for help. Following is some random information: The owners manual makes reference to a trailer/trim option, but I don't think this boat has it. The previous owner, a good friend, states that he's never had this problem. The boat has aprox. 100 hrs. on it. The boat has not been used in two years but has been started and run aprox. every two months. The battery is charged and fresh. The hyraulic fluid is full. The boat has never seen salt water and none of it's fittings show any sign of corrosion.
It's as though the system thinks it is running and is limiting the amount of trim/rise. A sensor? Limit switch? Any ideas? Thanks! Rusty
