Trim Operation Question

Ok so this isn't a question of how to properly trim the boat. Instead my question is about the operation of the system itself. So little background, I have a 1979 Sea Ray with a ford 351 and MC-1 outdrive (probably not relevant but thought I would include it anyway). It has a 3 button trim system like this:

In a broad sense I know that I push the "IN" button to lower the trim, the "UP/OUT" button to raise the trim until the trim limit switch stops it, and the "UP" and "UP/OUT" buttons simultaneously to lift the outdrive to trailer it.

Here is my question will the trim pump auto stop when the cylinders are fully retracted and when they are fully extended? I know the newer boats do I just don't know if that was something that was a feature available on boats of this era.

Asking this now because I am setting the trim limit switch tonight and am curious if there is a way to know when the outdrive is fully trimmed down or if I need to rely on the gauge and if I see the outdrive moving down anymore.

the pump stops when you stop pushing

the cylinders are bottomed out when you hear the pump load up

and when they are fully extended?

When using Trailer function they continue as Scott mentioned
If you have trim limit switch adjusted and working correctly on the gimbal ring. The the limit switch will turn the trim motor OFF when using trim up only button

Yes, the switch stops it correctly. I was just curious if that was the only auto stop or if the trailer and fully lowered had them as well. Which Scott deftly answered for me. Thanks for the help!

Ayuh,..... As Scott said, at full Up, the pump can be heard in overload, as it labors,....
At full down, it by-passes, 'n sings at a higher note, unloaded,....

When my trim hits the end either up or down I always bump the switch in the opposite direction for a moment to take the pressure off the system. Don't know if it really does anything but it makes me feel better!

good idea to unpressure the cross-port check valves
