Motor trims well out of water but only gets to a certain point and stops while trying to get on plane. Any ideas?

It would help if you would tell us what outdrive you have. Also there should be a safty that does not allow you to go past a certan point, after that the u-joints are bent to much, its called the "trailer position". Are you trying to trim it past the allowed trim in the trailer position?

It's when I'm trying to get the boat on plane. It used to go higher and allow the boat to plane but now it seems the prop pressure pushing against is stronger than the hydraulics to raise the trim. It gets to a certain point and seems to oscillate there.

I'm a bit of a novice here. What do you mean by "outdrive"? It's a 90HP on a Tracker Pro Team 185.

OK so now we know that its an outboard and not an inboart/outboard. Who makes the 90HP motor?

Well this is where I drop off because I know nothing about outboards. Buy, hey! look on the bright side. A moderator will come along shortly and move your thread in to the Mecury Outboard section where there are lots of people that know about these outboards and their systems. Good luck, it will get figured out. Did you do the basic stuff like look for leaks on the hydrolic lines, check fluid level etc?

It would also help if you stated the year of your outboard.

Check the fluid level of the trim system. 98.9% chance your low on fluid.

Fluid is checked in the fully raised position with trailer bracket engaged

High trim is what WON'T get the boat to plane. If you want to get up and go, LOWER the trim all the way down.
