Hi just bought a driver family 15ft speedboat from the 70,s with a 3lt mercruiser 140 and an alpha drive system. i am new to boating and just want her for towing and a bit of fun.i am looking to get in the water in a couple of weeks but i have a problem with the power trim, when i lift the leg on the button everything is fine but when i go to trim down it really struggles. I have hard wired from battery to the terminals at the back end cutting out any switch problems just for testing and the wire starts to get hot whilst going down but is fine when lifting .Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: trim problems

check for corroded terminal connection.
even relatively small amounts of resistance can cause significant heat.
rusty switch?
