So I have a trim pump that is not working. This is from a 1981 Glastron SSV-177 that I purchased as a project several years ago. The trim system never worked since I've owned the boat and I believe its been sitting for quite some time, either well covered or in a garage. I have the in handle control and the two solenoid system. Solenoid and wiring all checks out ok. The motor itself seems to be seized up.

I've removed the entire assembly from the boat and removed the solenoids and drained the fluid reservoir. Opened the reservoir and I verified that the motor shaft is seized. The hydraulic pump shaft when decoupled from the motor shaft spins freely. Ok... its a bad motor. Has anyone had success rebuilding the motors? Does anyone know how to get the motor off of the reservoir? I dont really see how it comes apart but it was late last night when I was looking at it.

Most likely there is a bearing in there that had some moisture on it and seized up so I feel like I am better off just getting a replacement pump. Just curious to see what anyone else has tried on these pumps. Most issues with the systems seem to be the solenoids but that is not the case here.

Thanks,
Ethan

Ayuh,..... When I had that problem, I tossed that pump into the parts bin, 'n got the new style pump with the plastic tank,.....

You can trash all the junk in the return oil line too,....
The reverse lock, etc,.....
Just buy the new style return line that runs directly from the drive mounted manifold, to the pump,....

iboats sells the aftermarket replacement pumps,....

Hi Bondo,

Thanks for the reply. I'd rather not buy a whole bunch of new stuff if I don't have to but I do want to do it right. Is the reverse interlock system finicky? I don't believe I have it on my other boat so I've never really dealt with it.

The replacement pump that your talking about.. is it this one? (attached)

How would I go about mounting this in the bilge? I don't have a nice flat surface for it to mount to and I kind of liked how the old pump was mounted to the transom assembly.

I suppose I could make up a bracket but If I'm doing that I feel like I should source a used pump that doesn't necessarily have to have the bracket and solenoid's and use my old stuff since they seem to be working fine. Are they all basically the sameish? I know thats kind of a poor question but I'f were looking at the new style pumps that have the interlock somewhat built in then all I really have to interface with is two hydraulic connections and 3 wires for the pump. Ground and the two power leads. Correct me if I'm wrong.

How did you rig up your new style pump in you 165 engine bay?

Thanks again,
Ethan

I was refittin' a 4.3l into where an ole 140 hp used to live,....

Ya, that's the pump, I bought mine used,...

I just bolted it to the aft deck,...

Any idea if the style with the metal type can on the bottom has the built in valving that doesn't need the reverse interlock? I have this type on my 85 merc 260 and I don't recall seeing the interlock switch.

This is the type that I'm referring to.
