Trim Pump Replacement

I have a 1977 115hp v4 crossflow with the original power tilt. The motor and pump are cactus. I have the opportunity to buy a mercruiser pump very cheap. My question is does any one know how easy it will be to retro fit this pump? I can install it inside the boat. Are the fittings the same or will I need to get new hoses? Can this be done or am I wasting my time?

I don't think you'll find too many who have done this.But a pump is a pump,a cylinder is a cylinder.Oil makes both work.So it can be done.I doubt anything will thread into each other,and the hoses/lines from inside the boat,cannot interfear with the motor pivoting up and down.<br /><br />What does the original tilt need ?<br /><br />If you need a motor,or resevoir and motor,try ARCO. They had them last year.<br /><br />DHP

Thanks DHPMARINE, unfortunately the pumps for the 1977 are not avaliable at all. I bought a mercruiser pump off e-bay for $15, I think I will try to get some hoses made up and see how it goes.

Ive worked on both and dont remember the OMC having ports for the hoses(they dont use them).I thought they use o-rings between the resevoir /pump/cylinder.I suppose you could drill and tap some after careful planning......Looking at my 3 cyl trim unit doesnt look too promising.<br /> TimM
