Hi there. I thought I was finished working on this boat for a bit of time, but I guess not.
74 mercruiser with Trim Pump with remote reverse lock.
Went to fix brushes on trim motor and noticed a bunch of sludge in the pump.

I know the valve body and gear assembly on the inside of the pump is a non serviceable item BUT I was wondering what kind of trouble I would get into if I removed the 7 Torx bolts and checked to see if there was any sludge in there.

Thought for once I'd check into it before I created a bigger problem.

thanks
Oops, forgot something.
My manual shows a "Ball, commutator end plate" but mine was missing when I dismantled it.
Did all pumps come with this ball?

The ball sometimes gets stuck in the end plate due to grease or is stuck to the end of the shaft. Yes you will need that, its just a small ball bearing. I have a mercury manual and in volume 2 on page 7a-31 there is a cut away of the valve body in up and down circuit. If you don't have that its still farly simple 3 or 4 check balls and springs that hold them, along with the two pump gears.

qaztwo, thanks for the info.
I assume the commutator ball just fits nicely into the end of the shaft.
I just took my pump apart, you're right it was straightforward. I just hope the balls and springs go where I think they go. They didn't seem to move when I seperated the top.
I wish my manual went to page 31 it only goes to 7A-18.

thanks again for the help
