I know there's 100 post about the trim pump issues. But I need to know 1 thing..
1997 5.7 merc Bravo 3
the trim will only go down with the switch and up with the trailer button. The transom is brand new and when I try and jump the solenoid I get nothing.. Does the switch need to be activated during the jump?
The pump fires when I go from blue to the main power supply.
Thanks

Re: Trim pump

Probably just a bad trim limit switch. Head up to the stickies at the top of this forum and download service manual #11. The troubleshooting section (1-C) covers in detail how to troublshoot and find out exactly what the problem is.

Re: Trim pump

Thanks for the quick reply. The whole gimble assembly was replaced and I adjusted to limit switch clockwise and still not trim up with switch.

Re: Trim pump

The tilt/trim system from merc has been a problem from it's inception. That's what happens when you have a bad system. Some of the remote switches were so poorly designed, the plastic switch would pop in place on assembly but would pop out when pushed to activate.

Most people learn to use the trim by 'feel' just using the trailer switch cuz they're such a pita to replace the senders and are likely to fail any way.

I re-wired both boats with a simple toggle switch to activate up and down with a remote down at the transom. It's really simple.
