trim question

Hey the trim on my outboard is shot. Until I am able to get a new trim fitted onto the boat are there any alternatives to keeping the motor up while traveling? Thanks. I'm not sure if it matters but the motor is a 1970's 100hp Johnson. Thanks.

I like to handle the high tech questions that require years on the water.

lift motor, stick a 2x4 between the housings

be sure to tape the 2x4 in there otherwise when the boat bounces the board will fall out and the engine will slam down.

Transome savers always work really well. The motor won't be all the way up but it will be tilted enough to clear driveways and such.

You shouldn't have been relying on the trim unit to hold up the motor while trailering to begin with. That may have even contributed to the trim unit's demise. A trailering bracket or transom saver should be used.

Most outboards, power trim or not, come with a pivoting bracket/support for trailering. Tilt the motor all the way up & flip the lil thingy down. Then lower the motor onto it & yer good to go.

Imo 'less your transom's rotten you don't need a 'transom saver'. If you trailer with the motor tilted up on the factory rest most of the weight is placed fwd of & down onto the transom.

The torque generated by simply running the boat. Holeshot, crossing waves/wakes, etc is way more than hitting a bump in the road whilst trailering?

If you rest it on the support brackets then you might want to tie the leg down to stop it bouncing.
