Got the outdrive for my '78 Sea Star Spoiler back in. Went to pull trim rams back in to reconnect them but one hung up on lower unit (no helper--couldn't see this). I heard a pop sound from bottom of trim pump/reservoir. Fluid appeared to be leaking from the hydraulic line in bottom of reservoir. Can I just re-tighten the connection? Do I have to have flare nut wrench? Doesn't look like it would be too hard to remove pump/reservoir. Disconnect battery, remove solenoid bolts, disconnect hydraulic line, and then the two bolts mounting the assembly. Don't want to but if needed I can. Any advice appreciated as always. Greg

Ayuh,.... Ya gotta take it apart far enough to see what's Broken,...

Then decide how to fix it,....

Got any pictures,... quite a few different pumps out there,...

If a cylinder was jammed in such a way as to not extend you over pressured a hyd line and blew it

Re: Trim res leak at hydraulic line fitting

Thnx for replies. I have an MC-1 drive with the black, all-metal pump/reservoir and will have someone to help tomorrow so I can try to pinpoint leak after I refill the reservoir--from the hose itself or its point of attachment. I think I've found the replacement hose. Part #32-55816. I don't want to remove pump/reservoir but know I may have to. If it is the hose, do I remove the plate with the 4 hydraulic lines to the cylinders for access to the blown hose? Patience is a commodity too many of us are lacking and it's only early May, so if I have to work another week on it to get it right that's just the way it has to be. But dang I wish there was a quick jerry-rigged fix! Thnx guys.

Re: Trim res leak at hydraulic line fitting

Refilled res and had son actuate trim. Hose seems to be ok along with the connection but is pouring out between cover and reservoir. Hope it is just the gasket. Getting that @#%*@# pump/res out is beyond a nightmare. Wish it was possible to slap a gallon of JB Weld on, around, over, through, etc!!!Got the front 2 bolts out of mount, but the back one must've been Mercruiser's idea of a sick joke. Takes 15 minutes to get short, thin wrench on nut and then 5 minutes to get a thin walled socket on bolt head until one or the other slips and you start over. I'm gonna go get a stubby air ratchet to fit in there to remove that bolt. Don't think I'll put it back in--assuming I do ever get it out. Maybe I'll just mount a winch on the transom and bolt it to lower unit. Just kidding I think. Any advice greatly needed and appreciated. GK
