Trim rod size

I'm preparing to replace the trim/tilt motor on my 150 E150EXERV '96. The manual says I need to remove the trim rods etc. I have the old retaining clips out and managed to drop one and lose it somewhere, and I think it's a good idea to just replace all of them anyway as long as I have it apart. I refuse to pay 5-10 bucks *each* for a snap ring from BRP/OMC. Anybody know the size of the rod and/or clip? SAE or Metric will be enough to buy the proper set of clips from an auto parts store for less than $10 for a set of 300+ in several sizes.

Save $$ and effort.----Drill and tap ( 1/4-20NC ) the rod and use 19 cent screw and washer to hold in place.-----Or drill and use a 12 cent cotter pin.

Not enough room for a cotter key. I like the screw and washer idea. Simple and effective.

Price of parts.-------You have to remember that ordering 1 spare part needs-----A part identified.--Supplier paid for it.-----Stored.--Packaged.---Ordered.-----Shipped.-------Or try going to your grocery store and ordering say one egg painted red special for you.-----That egg would cost more than 30 cents !!!-----What I am saying is that supply of spare parts involves huge expenses !!----BRP does not make a lot of $$ suppling $9.00 retaining washers !!

I'll take 4 dozen please. Any color.

Eggs are currently $5.58 a dozen or 46 cents a piece at my local walmart.
Thats 4 times the price from a year ago.

Organics and cage free eggs are $7 a dozen.

And they shouldn't because I can buy an assortment of 13 sizes for the price of a single snap ring from BRP. It's the principal. Anyway I've moved on. Re-used two of them.

I think the consensus here is that I'm cheap. I am. But I don't like to buy stuff I'm not going to use. I've spent over $1500 on this old motor just since Fall so I'll hit the hip when I have to. I was already resigned to the fact that I needed to buy a whole set of rings, but buying the metric one and finding out I need SAE sized rings is really what I'm trying to avoid. I ended up re-using them. They aren't serving a mission critical service and the force from side to side is minimal or zero.
