trim selenoid in 84 merc 150

will not trim up, selenoid clicks, i thought the selenoid was good, but would not go up.i connected a remote starter on the two selenoid posts and pushed the button and motor trimed up. is the selenoid bad? thank you

Yup. Replace the solenoid. Very common for these to go bad like that, I've replaced lots of these and starter solenoids of similar construction. The contacts burn up (high-resistance connection), and then will not pass current.<br /><br />Look up your part at www.mercurypartsexpress.com or http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/ then use that part number as a cross reference to get a good deal at this site:<br /><br /> http://www.boatfix.com/searchsierra.asp <br /><br />If you have a local NAPA store you can take the Sierra part # to them and they can probably get the part (or Merc dlr of course) but I bet the Boatfix site will have the best price on the solenoid.<br /><br />HTH.........ed
