Re: trim sender help
Hey does anybody know which sender I need for my 150 hp. merc outboard blackmax 1990? Also exactly where is it located? Will I need to run wires up to the console? It is a ranger fish n ski 1990 or so. Did not come with trim guage.
Two models were made, one for single ram and one for tripple ram trim/tilts. The part number is ellusive on the net but any Merc mechanic can look it up.
The trim sender is located on the port side of the engine mount. You can see where it attaches if you lift the engine and look up under the mount. you should see the ram t-bar through a hole in the side of the mount. The t-bar will have a slot in the end of it and there will be two machine screw holes fore and aft of the hole.
If you don't currently have a sender and gauge, give it up. You cannot use the universal style gauges that are availble today with that sender. It needs a gauge that can read from 0-190k ohms. The universals all require it read the other way around (high to low). And before you ask, no, flipping it over doesn't work. There are actually four possible mounting positions and no, none of them work for the new gauges.
Save your money, put a compass in the hole in the dash so you have something usefull there.
