Trim Sender Sending Unit for Penta DP-SM Drive, won't stay activated.

2002 Regal 2950, 8.1 GXI motor (420hp), Volvo Penta DP-SM 1.78 Outdrive.
New Trim Sending unit, Aftermarket unit, just like stock.

It takes hours to set the new trim sending unit to my stock gauge.
Once set out of water, try every position 10 times. Shut down batteries, then back on, and try other 10 times, works fine.
Put it water, and the gauge is off anywhere for nothing to 3/4 off.
Next week in water, off again different position.
It wont hold a memory.
Is it supposed to have a memory, or power supply to it. or is the new sending unit bad???

Only using 2 of the 3 wires for the stock wiring harness.
The MFG says it's good for both systems, 2 or 3 wire connection.

Thanks for any help.
Paul.

I kept all your duplicate posts together so you don't lose track.

One was enough.

Did you set the new to 11 ohms before installing?

Yes connect an ohm meter to the 2 black wires rotate the sender till it reads 11 ohms +/- 2. Install the sender with the leg in full down. Then adjust the sender till the guage reads full down.
