trim sensor switch

First of all the boat is new to me, I have noticed that the trim sensor switch on the STBD side is missing. but the trim limit on the port is there. Is there any harm in keeping it this way. I have never noticed it was missing until I started trouble shooting a problem that I am currently having. The boat will trim down with the trim bottom but now it does not trim up,with the trim up bottom, but it did before. I can still use the trailer buttom and it will trailer up. I am not sure if the trim sensor was ever there now.

Could the trim sensor be causing the motor not to trim up with the trim button
or is it in the wiring or could it be the cylinode. but if it is the up cylinode i would think that the trailering button would not work. or is that on a different cylindoe.

I realize this is a few guestion on one post but not sure if the trim senore could be causing me problems since now that i see it is missing and am not sure if it was ever there.

Well, it sounds like you might be working on some kind of a Mercruiser, is this true? If so, which one. Model, year, etc.

yes sorry it is a mercruiser, bayliner, Alpha one outdrive

Well, that's a start. Does it have a year? Are you sure it's not an Alpha I Gen II, or maybe an MR or R????

The boat is a 1993 the only numbers I found on outdrive is OD896381. also on the outdrive is 1993 for a date.

Cool, thanks. You have an Alpha I Gen II outdrive.
The trim sender, on the starboard side is for the gauge only. The trim limit switch on the port side is the one that can affect trim movement.

If you go up to the adults only sticky at the top of this forum, you can download the OEM service manual for free. You want manual #14 for your gen II drive.
There is also a portion of the troubleshooting section devoted to finding the cause of your problem. With wiring diagrams and details.
