trim slow going up and down

1978 inline 6cyl with 165merc outdrive and was wandering if outdrive should move up and down as fast as out board motors if so what should i check first and how do i do it, thanks

Could be the pump weak, or the trim cylinders corroding and causing the slowdown.
Without the proper guage manifold, it's going to be hard to tell. But you could pull the trim cylinders off and operate them by hand. After you get the oil out, they should move easily. If they don't or you can't move them by hand, well...... you found your problem.

mines about 15-20 seconds from full up to full down

be sure to fully check electrical connections 1st, if motor turns slow ,drive will rise slow, electrical must be checked first because thats what drives pump and that pushes fluid into cylinders ,

where would the trim motor be located and what does it look like .please dont say in the rear because i know its back there somewhere,lol

Here is a hint.

Have someone push the up and/or down buttons while you listen and follow the sound.

okay don i did that the sound and motion seemed to be insync with each other , was that what this was about , also it takes my outdrive 18 seconds to from full down to full up and about 16 to go down is that average
