trim stuck in up position

trim stuck in up position. just purchased 78 ranger bass boat and the trim won't come down. i'm an idiot when it comes to boats and don't have the vocabulary. when i push the button can hear the motor and it sounds strong but still won't go down. also leaks fluid from on of the cylinders. also a new member to the forum so take it easy on me lol. thanks

Welcome.<br /><br />What kind of motor?<br /><br />Is there a mechanical trim lock (usually a lever) engaged? My motor has one to relieve the pressure on the trim cylinders for travel.<br /><br />If there is not a trim lock then you may have to bleed off the pressure from the system and it should drop.<br /><br />If the system is LOW on fluid it will also stop moving.<br /><br />So, thry these steps:<br /><br />1. Look for trim lock<br />2. Check and top off fluid level<br /><br />If they fail repost more info on this and we will try to help.<br /><br />Bob
