I have a 1976 Mercury 850, sometimes if you trim it up too far it gets stuck, you can hear the trim motor run but it will not go down. Checked the fluid and it is fine. How do I lower the motor manually?

Probably needs the seals replaced in the cylinders. They can bind up and won't go down. There is less pressure available going down then up

Make sure the manual tilt lock isn't jamming the transom bracket. They can rust and just get in the way.

I think I remember my '77 Merc doing that. I think running it up some more, and then quickly down was the workaround.

I doubt the inner seals are the issue. You do not want to open up the trim cylinders unless you really have to. I am not sure the teflon piston seal is still available.
