Re: Trim switch bypassing trim limit switch?

Valkyr, that was exactly what I needed. I spent part of the weekend rewiring and everything works as it should finally. Since my controller only has 3 wires, I used an additional momentary switch for the limit bypass/trailer position.

Here is what I ended up with:

Harnass Controller Momentary Switch
Red/W Red/W Red
Green/W Green/W
Purple/W Blue/W
Blue/W Blue

Thanks for asking the question and posting the colors/functions.

Re: Trim switch bypassing trim limit switch?

I had this same issue with my boat when preparing to launch this weekend. My trim would not go up at all. After going through the wiring and figuring out the issue was my Stupid @ss, piece of @#$$, poorly engineered limiting switch, I decide to bypass it. It was very simple just jump a wire from the purple to the blue wire. When I read what the switch was for, and all the work you have to go through to replace it I was like screw that. I had just put my outdrive back on after yearly maintenance and to find out I would have to remove it, and a number of other thing I had just replaced, to fix something that is pretty much useless, was not going to happen. Anyway glad to see you fixed your problem, boats can be a headache.

Re: Trim switch bypassing trim limit switch?

SeaRyan,

I apologise if I missed something here, but the limit switch is on the outside of the gimble, it's really easy to get access to (just push the outboard to the starboard side of the boat) and does not require removal of the outdrive.
I am confused by your comments.
I do agree that the limit switch is not critical to operating the boat, its just a nice little extra!! Just watch the trim gauge so that you don't go too high with the outboard running.
