Trim Switch

1984 260 Mercrusier with Alpha 1 drive
When running the boat and I want to trim drive UP, I have to use the Trailer UP button. Trim down button works fine, only the trim up button will not function...any thoughts on where to start looking?

CC, There is a "Trim Limit" switch located on a pivot point of the outdrive. The trim switch is wired in series with this switch. Due t the action of the water on the trim limit switch wich is usually submerged, they fail.

I usually bypass the trim limit switch, after it fails. You might disassemble the switch and see if it may be repaired.

I think you answered your own question. You need to check the connections on the trim limit switch on the outdrive. The trim up switch goes through the trim limit switch on the transom (port side of gimbal ring) so if the outdrive won't trim up, chances are your limit switch has gone bad (water and grease gets in there). Its easy to open up the limit switch, clean the contacts and put it back together (don't forget the o rings).
