Hey Guys hope you can help. I have a 1994 Four Winns 190 Horizon with a 5.0 OMC with EFI. It starts and runs and idles great. My problem is this. When running around 40mph plus...I hit the trim button to bring up the lower unit to gain a bit more speed. Every time I hit the trim button...it seems the engine stutters or cuts. When I release the trim...it runs fine. I'm hitting the trim button for about 2 seconds at a time.
I took it in to the marine...and on land...he couldn't duplicate the issue. Almost seems like some kind of "short" somewhere.
Issue number 2: when running wide open...at top end...the engine appears to "miss" every once in a while and you feel a slight slow down in speed.
I had the tech guy pull the plugs....(which haven't been changed in 4 years) and he said they look brand new. Engine has about 260 hours on it.
I'd appreciate any insight into this. Thanks so much.

Re: Trim switch

omc had a service bulletin on a resistor wire going to the coil causing a miss/cut-out when trimming the drive.I'm not sure if it apllies to your engine with EFI.

Re: Trim switch

hello
sounds like something is pulling availble voltage from the fuel pump or injector circuits, while the problem is occuring try to record the data to a lap top and compare all the voltages, injector pulsewidths and fuel pump pressures.
good luck and keep posting

thanks rod....i'll pass that onto the tech when i see him this week. i thought it odd that the trim switch didn't act up when the engine was running on land...only on water under load and at high speed.
jk

Old 2004 Thread

Hopefully the original poster has this fixed by now. Might want to look at the dates on a thread before you reply to them.
