I seriously doubt it. I don't know what hp you are running, but lots of smaller engines don't even have one. I have run many engines without them. Really the only need for it is when you get OB's so large that the offset caused by prop torque puts more pressure on the steering than you want, or feel like controlling.....like having a car with the front end out of alignment. Every time you turn loose of the steering it wants to wander over to the side of the road.
