trim tab missing

i have a 1995 70hp force. i was testing my new sonar out when i seemed to get no pick-up and i wasn't getting high rpms. also when i engaged the throttle forward, the motor killed often, but reverse was fine. i put the boat on the trailer and noticed the triim tab on the engine was missing. could this cause the motor to lose rpms and stall from the drag of the hole where the tab should be? also when i got home, i put the motor flusher on to run the gas out of the carbs, and when i increased the throttle, the rpms were fine and the engine picked-up like it was supposed to. any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: trim tab missing

Sorry, the missing trim tab is not causing the poor engine performance.

I suspect the motor is only firing on 2 cylinders due to loss of spark or low compression.

First check for spark, then compression.
Report back with results.

Are we sure this is a 1995 70 Hp ?If so the trim tab will not affect performance. But some earlier Force outboards had the exhaust come out there.I always called it an exhaust snout.Since it was part of the 'tuned exhaust' it certainly affected performance when not installed.

DHP

Re: trim tab missing

I was thinking the same thing, but figured the engine would be over revving, as the exhaust would blow down into the prop.
