Trim tab stuck down.

I have a Boat leveler trim system. First the port switch went bad. wanting to go out this weekend I had to go to west marine and get a Bennett switch. The only difference is the colors on the wiring, which I already figured out by research. The starboard goes up and down fine. The port tab went down slowly and will not come back up. Now when I hit the switch to retract it blows the 20amp fuse. I contacted Boat leveler and the guy said that since the switch was bad it probably made the solenoid go bad. Just wanted to know if this sounds right and what is the best way to get the trim tab back up so I can fish this weekend?

Re: Trim tab stuck down.

It is quite possible that if the original switch failed in a way that it supplied constant current to the solenoid it could burn it out causing a dead short.

The easiest way to retract the Trim Tab is to remove the hose from the pump, have a container handy to catch the fluid. The spring in the actuator (ram) will retract the Trim Tab to full up once the pressure is released.
