trim tab ?

my outboard is a 115hp mercury.. the trim tab is damaged.( only just found out what it was called ) what is it for, and how simple is it to replace . thanks .

One bolt from the bottom holds it on. The trim tab can be adjusted either to the right or left in increments to help straighten out steering pull when underway. The trailing edge is moved in the direction of pull..

I pretty sure (is on mine anyway) the bolt is under a rubber cap at the very rear looking down. It screws into the anode/fin. If the cap is gone, don't worry about that either..just cosmetic
