What do you mean "changed"? Maybe i am misunderstanding what you are asking. A trim tab is positioned on the transome of the boat at or just below the water line. You adjust them to make your boat plane better. There are 2 of them, one on each side, and can be adjusted with a controll switch to compensate for uneven weight in your boat.

maybe I'm calling it by the wrong name; it is on the lower unit, and it is a silver looking "fin" is the best way to describe it ..... :confused:

Both can be called trim tabs. Its mounted at the end of the anti-cavitation plate. It can have 2 purposes:<br />>can act as a sacrificial anode, being made out of zinc(not all models)<br />>assists driver in overcoming the steering effect of the prop. Without it, the driver would always have to struggle to maintain a straight course. The steering wheel would always have tension on it.<br /><br />It should be changed when it has been dissolved to the point where it no longer compensates for torque steer.
