Trim Tabs - Causing List?

Hi Fellow Boaters!

Looking forward to the spring in Upstate NY! :)

Last year prior to us putting the boat away, we had an interesting list/lean to Starboard. Almost to the point of where it feels like the whole vessel is going to roll on its side. I can correct it to a certain degree with the trim tabs, but I'm wondering if it's due to the trim tabs being bent?

Attached the left and right trim tab photos. Would that potentially cause the issue? Initially, we thought it was weight balance related, but even with 3 people on the port and myself on the starboard, I still had to deploy the tab to correct and even then it only worked for a short amount of time.

One other interesting scenario, if I deploy both trim tabs to full 'Down', the boat seems relatively more stable. Are these undersized for this type of boat?

2005 Bayliner 325 with Merc 350, B3s.

Appreciate any advice!

How long have you had the boat? Was it OK before? Is there dual fuel tanks, or a water tank that was now empty on one side?

Don’t look good.....

My boat is sensitive to tab position That much damage would certainly cause issues.

You should have 5/8” positive chamber with the tab in the full up position.

Hold a straight edge to the bottom of the hull and measure at the back edge of the tab.

that amount of bend is minimal. if it concerns you, grab a large crescent wrench (24" with 2" long jaws) and bend it back.

however for the amount of list you are describing, you have another issue. first, weigh the boat you may have 800# of water in the foam on the starboard side.

I'm thinking there is something wrong with the tabs, as in the starboard side leaks and once put down, it comes back up

Check fluid level in trim pump

Thanks everyone for the responses!

It's been doing this now for a while - when we had sea trial (2 years ago), everything checked out well.

However, once we had the boat transported up here, we experienced the issue. Most of the time though we are going very slow on the Mohawk due to the lock system (1800/1900 RPMs). Very rarely to we get up on plane at cruise speeds.

I can't imagine we would have water weight as the boat seems extremely clean in all the bilges, etc. Also, knocking on the hull sounds like it echoes (not sure if that is a good test). Would the idea be to have the marina weigh the boat and figure out if we have water somewhere?

If there is a scale at a quarry near you they can weigh the boat and trailer, put the boat in the water and weight the trailer. That will tell you the weight of your boat.
