i just bought an 03 baja and the previous owner apparently to the trim tab guage out and clipped the wires about a foot away from the tabs, why would he do this? i want to get a guage, but being that he clipped the wires, can i get a guage and splice the wires or is there a brain for the guage with a harness, i dont know what kind of tabs they are, but on the tabs themselves it says boat leveler mfg. any info would be great, thanks

totally depends on what you have, and how it is set up.

yes, i have the guage for the outdrive, there is a hole where the trim tab guage was, and like i said, the wires that go to the guage were clipped off at about a foot away, i was wondering if i got a guage if it would just tie into the existing clipped wires.

Re: trim tabs question

Do you have the buttons to operate the tabs or are they gone too? If so, are your tabs just stuck in one position? Or are they self-adjusting (I don't know anything about self-adjusting)

My lenco's have a "pad" on the dash with the 4 buttons to operate the tabs; some models have LED guages there. Then inside the dash is the control box "brains" as you put it; from there wires to the tabs.

Tab controls are cheap. The only reason I can think of for removing the controls would be if you have auto-control then your looking at @ $300- $350for the control.

Just get a new manaul control pad and extend the wires to suit.

Re: trim tabs question

Performance trim tabs mostly use mechanical indicators.

Cables run from the tabs to a panel (rectangle shaped normally) and they move indicators up and down

Re: trim tabs question

i have been boating for 30 years, so i know by the seat of my pants, i was just wondering about the guage, there are 2 switches on the dash for tab up, tab down for each side, all the hydraulics are there also, both tabs are on the boat with indicator sensors mounted with about 16" of wire coming into the enging compartment that were clipped, i found out the name on the tabs are boat levelers mfg. and i just cant fing the guage by itself, but with all that said above, can i just get a guage or do i need a brain and harness, thanks, fastercat
