Can the actual tabs in a trim tab system be upgraded? I have hydrolic trim tabs and they are too small. I want to but new tabs with the bracket and hook them up to my existing system. The parts are approx. $200 as opposed to $600 for a whole new system. Is this possible? Has anyone done this?? Thanks.

Check boatus they have complete kits for a lot less from Bennet, which are the best in the business. However if you don't increase the size too much, the next sixe will probably take the same piston.

Yes you can. What you need to do (if you have an existing bennett system) is go to the bennett website and get part numbers for the pieces you want. West Marine has a special order desk that will order for you (use the 1800 number and they will xfer you).

If you are only upgrading from 9 to 12 inch depth, but the width (chord length) is the same, you can use the same backing plates. Otherwise you would have to replace those too. The rams, etc are all the same for the different models. The sport uses two rams instead of one, but is a special category.

Thanks guys. I think i am going to order 18" for my 23 foot boat. It says 1" for every foot, but that sounds too big to me. Mine are only 10" and they work ok, but i am looking for a little better performance. Should i do what they say and go to 24" tabs?

Purse*Snatcher,

I might be able to help. Do you know what make of Trim Tabs you have? If they are Bennett, then I am sure I can help. Also can you tell us what type of boat you have and as best you can the actual dimentions of the Trim Tabs. It can be very easy to install larger Trim Tabs. If I know the type and size I am sure I can give you some ideas to make this go as easy as possible.

Tom McGow
Bennett Marine

I have a 23 foot Irvette from Irvette Marine. The trim tabs are approximately 10" wide and 6" deep. I can get the exact dimensions if you need them. The tabs help a lot in rough water but they only help a little to get up on plane. I think they are too small. I have a little joystick controll on my center console to adjust them. Thanks.

P*S

Yes, get the actual dimensions. That will help a lot in getting a larger Tab in place to fit right where the existing one is. 10" x 6" doesn't sound correct.

Tom
Bennett Marine

I will get the exact dimensions. It was probably closer to 8" wide. I thought they were way to small, but i will get back to you tonight with the dimensions. Thanks.
