Power trim tabs are the way to go in MHO. thats just Me.
I like being able to be in charge of My boats performance. Never had smart tabs, so I guess I No nothing about them.
That's kind of it. I have installed Bennett's, Eddie Marine Kplane wannabes, Lencos and SmartTabs. If budget is the concern, SmartTabs. If ease of install is the issue, SmartTabs or 2nd Lenco's. If you are a point and shoot kinda guy, as opposed to wanting total control, SmartTabs. If you want ultimate control at all speeds all water conditions, all load conditions, then helm adjustable. With the budget issue understood, it is almost that simple. All V-hulls should have some sort of trim tabs. Passive or helm adjustable. And those who have not tried both, I'm sorry, you just don't know . . .

One other factor to consider... if you're the type that's going to play with the adjustment of Smart Tabs until you have them 'perfect', factor in the time and fuel cost of experimenting with them.

I'm one of those :)

I mounted a set of ST's on my 21' Pro-Line. Then, it was 4 times on and off the trailer over a couple of days, and damned near 40 gallons of fuel in testing. By the time I was finished, it cost me nearly as much in effort and money as it would have cost to install Bennett or Lenco.

However, ST's do work very well on small boats- there was a night and day difference in the boat's attitude and handling once I had them set up.

I installed Smart Tab SX on my previous 18' boat. Loved them, night and day difference. Never a problem.
I installed the Stainless Smart Tabs on my current 20' V8 powered open bow. I bought the optional top brackets that raises them up if I need to. Love them too. Handles like a completly different boat. I am going to have to move my trailer tie down point on these ones.
