I have twin 225 hp yamahas. My question is simple . Do you paint the trim tabs when you paint the bottom of the boat? IF not, why? I have just noticed rust spots on both trim tabs.

Re: trim tabs

They are sacrificial anodes. They corrode instead of your gear housings. Painting them makes them not work.

Re: trim tabs

Are you talking about the trim tab on the cav. plate or actually transom mounted trim tabs?

Re: trim tabs

There are not any sacrificial anodes present. The trim tabs are on the cav plate or attached yo the hull{Bennett trim tabs}

Re: trim tabs

You are asking about the Bennet trim tabs. Right? If you did paint them then the rust would still be there just under the paint. Possibly getting worse until the paint chips.
