I just my purchased my first boat (a 1997 Four Winns with a 4.3GL and a Cobra SX). After trailering it home I noticed the following. After several hours the stern drive will droop from the full up position to full down. The trim pump seems to working well. Could it be that I have a hydraulic seal leak somewhere or is this normal?

no, it's not normal. sounds like bad seals in the hydraulic rams. i believe kits are available to rebuild these.

I had this problem a month after I bought my new boat. Its a 1989 Rinker, 4.3 OMC.The factory replaced the pump for free. A year or so later it happened again. The dealer rebuilt my pump and found "junk" in it. WHY? They couldn't answer.

Replace Hyd. cylinder seals, there are seal kits for the glands. When cylinders go down and won't hold the Hyd. oil is bypassing the piston. Simple repair.

Yep get it re-sealed. This happened to me last year and that's all it needed. Also found junk in mine too.
