I have a 85 wellcraft with the mercruiser out drive the gauge in the dash reads in the middle all the time. The temp gauage also doesn't work the needle never moves from cold I also have never had it on the lake but on the muffs it never moves. I think I found a how to check the temp guage. But I haven't found anything on testing the trim/tilt gauge or the sender.
Thanks

I traced all the wires, everything was good. How can you test to find out if the gauge is bad or the sending unit is bad? The gauge reads in the middle all the time.

With a Ohm meter you have verified that your ground connections go to ground? Since you have more then one guage not reading, I would venture to say that you have a bad ground connection. (temporarily) Run a wire from your batt. neg. terminal to your guages ground and see what happens.

I can try that tom. I did take the ground clip from my testlight and clipped it to the ground stud and the other end of my testlight to the postive side of the guage and it lit up with no problems. I only have one gauge and two sending units one sending unit goes up two the front of the left side of the motor were the fuel cut off switch and the fuel filter is two a little block one ground and one goes two the brown with a white chaser witch is the color I have from my guage on the sender side. The other sending unit runs over to the pump for the tilt. Could they be backwards.

Still having problems with the guage doing nothing Is their any way I can just test the guage and make sure it is not the problem. I hate to spend 25.00 dollars on a guage and it not fix anything.
