Trim/Tilt Motor "clicking" not going up or down :(

Hi Guys,

My Trim tilt motor has suddenly stopped working, when you press the button to tilt up or down it just clicks, one click.

I thought last time I had this problem it was the solenoids, but I replaced both of them about 6 months ago, and it has been in the water only twice since, it was working, then halfway up, stopped, and started clicking, in both the up down positions.

I ran a wire from the up position on the motor solenoid to the positive terminal in the middle, the same as the button does, but does the same thing.

?

its a bravo 1, on a 454 mercruiser.

does that matter. Its currently stuck about 1/3 up. It stopped whilst trimming up, now just clicks.

Normally that click is means solenoid is working.. Check for voltage at your trim motor while pushing the button... Motor may be shot.. Mine did the same thing.. Could be a binding trim pump also, but not likely ..

Matters quite a bit. I have an OMC Stringer which has no hydraulics so I have no experience with your problem.

Check for loose or corroded connections.

If both the up and down click, look for a problem that is common to both. Check the 110 amp fuse on top of the solenoid, and the red wire connections. Good luck.

Jump both solenoids and see if you have the same problem. This will bypass the 110amp fuse. How does the oil in the reservoir look, milky?

Make sure you have it full, motor might be toast

Re-Did all the electrical connections, no good.

Measured voltage, used a jumper wire to bypass switch, no good.

Pulled pump apart, drained fluid, cleaned everything, put it all back together, new fluid, etc etc, NO GOOD.

Smacked it with a pair of plyers 3 times, fixed.

Should have tried that first...

thanks to everyone for their info!

Yep motor is about to crater. mine did the same thing.. I could wiggle around on the rear part of the case and get it to work but it would get hot... I found my replacement on ebay for 63 bucks.. Aftermarket with warranty.. Remember no trim up makes it tough to get on a trailer to get home.. I do love the fact that hitting it got it to work.
