Hi , I have a problem with my tilt/trim unit on my 1988 225hp looper , I had to replace the motor on it, took the old on off and replaced it with a new one , filled the unit up with oil. The problem i having is that the engine will not tilt down there seems to be a back pressure on the ram , so much so that the motor gets very hot trying to tilt it down , the trim rods go down fine its the main tilt ram that doesn't seem to want to go down , to make matters worse i have just damaged the new motor i fitted , there was so much pressure on the system that it blew off the motor trying to tilt it down, as you know the 3 bolts that hold the motor in place are going through a plastic flange, well it broke the bolt holes on the plastic flange , i cant understand this because i done every thing it said to do in the omc service manual , i'm just wondering if i have missed out on something , just one other thing when i release the manual screw i can just with extreme force push the engine down , as i said it will tilt up very easy , its trying to get it down is the problem , i hope someone out there knows what is happening and can help me out , many thanks steve..

Re: Trim/tilt problem

Shuckbo-- just a thought: did you fill it up with too much oil? I believe there needs to be some room for expansion in hydraulic system. I recently had some different probs with my tnt and found lots of good advice in the archives here on iboats. Good luck. Perserverence gets 'er done.
