Trim/Tilt problem

Tilt/Trim motor on my '94 50hp Johnson OB motor stopped working. When I attempted to loosen manual release valve it would not turn. Tried harder but then screwdriver slot stripped. The valve seems to be frozen solid. How do I get it out, and is there a way to remove complete Trim/Tilt assembly without raising motor?

Y2Kooter <br /><br />I don't know how you can get the motor up, but you will need to so that you can repair the problem. Will the T&T motor run at all or is it dead? If the motor works, you may be able to get someone to help you pull up on the lower unit to get it in the up position. Once up, it is very easy to pull the whole T&T assembly. Without the motor up, it will be darn near impossible to remove it, as it basicaly has to slide out between the mounts. Try putting 12 volts directly to the T&T motor, bypassing the switch and see if it works. It may be something other than the motor that is the problem. Rick,<br />T/T motor does not run at all.<br />How would I get the 12 volts directly to the motor with engine down?<br /><br />Any suggestions on the frozen manual release valve?

Y2Kooter, If you can get to the trim hoses, you can loosen one end and should be able to tilt the motor by hand.

Did you check the 2 relay solenoids (they plug in) located in the black box. I'm not a pro, but<br />I had the same problem with my 140 85 Rude. What I did was unscrewed all the contacts and cleaned all the gunk that accumulated on them. I'd try that first.<br />Do you hear any "clicking" whe you try to engage the trim/tilt?<br />Hope you resolve your problem
