My old 200 v6 Mercury trim has been slowly going out for a year. I could tap on top of the motor with a lead weight and it would raise up. Recently I tapped on it and it sounds like the motor is spinning disengaged from the pump. I ordered a new motor but am worried that the problem may be in the pump. If I turn the release knob will I be able to lift the motor manually? If I could just get it raised and stationary in a more suitable trimmed up position I would be happy. Do you think the motor shaft was binding in the pump and tapping helped get it going and now the sahft has broken under excessive pressure?
