trim/tilt switch

Okay, I have the manual for my 83' 70hp Evinrude. Problem is it shows a whole fuse box which does not exist on my boat. RIght now I am running the tilt by touching two wires to the battery. Anyone have an easy solution to rewiring it so I can use the trim/tilt switch on the console. (Short of rewiring the whole kit and caboodle with the fuse box) Everything else works and I'd rather not disturb anything that works.

You can run the same wires to the console and use an inline fuse of the same recommended amperage without going to the fuse box. Be sure wire gage size is correct for trim unit and switch can handle the amperage. Does'nt matter where the fuse is as long as you have one.

Okay, but if I run the wires to the console, how do I get power from the battery? Are you assuming that the wires from the switch are already connected to the battery?

you must reverse the polarity to the motor, the switch can not do that.
Where is the relay box?

I am assuming there is already power at the console. I also assumed you were touching the battery with different wires for up and down. If this is the case, the switch should be normally open with power in and two outputs for up and down. Please reply if different.

SARAH O, This might help....

Reversing Switch

Be sure you fuse the supply line (B+ at battery) for this circuit.. :D

Re: trim/tilt switch

The two wires that I touch to the battery come directly from the tilt motor. When touched one way the engine goes up, when touched the other way it goes down. I'm not sure I know what a relay box is, but I know the fuse board/box has been eliminated at some point because it doesn't exist. I can trace the wires from the switch back to the battery, but they go into separate little black plastic thingys (relays?) and then come out different colors before heading to the different battery terminals. Knowing all this, is there a simple way to get the switch on the console to work? By the way "Xcuseme", I could not open your file.

Okay, I got it that time, but I can't say I understand it. Sorry, I'm a total beginner at this.
