OMC 165 1977 or so sterndrive. The engine is a straight 6 made by GM Model 377127. The Tilt is a quarter way up and now does not go up or down. When I push the tilt up it clunks and I hear a cylinoid click. When I push the down I hear a cylinoid click. no clunk

It has a starter cylinoid on the back of the engine and what looks like 4cylinoids on the port side of the engine.

Re: trim tilt

I am sure the info in your link will fix it. But in looking at it more closely I find the trim gear is broken away from the housing. I got this boat for 250.00 from a junk yard. A guy was working on it, painting it etc, and dropped dead. So the family called a junk yard and said get this thing out of the yard. So a fellow came and pulled it home with the engine down and I am sure it hit something on the way and broke that trim gear big time. So once I have find an upper housing or upper gearcase as the case may be, I will go through the clutch and clean those sylinoids. I think I may do the cleaning now cause they all need it anyway. It sat in the junk yard for about 5 or 6 years.

PS: The guy got the engine running good though. The oil is like brand new. I will change it anyway. Probably has some water in it by now. But that baby runs like a top.

Ayuh,..... I'm sorry to hear that...

For what you paid for it,...
You should be able to turn a tiddy profit from selling the Parts on ebay or craigslist or something....
The running motor should get you $750. to a Grand,... If the Compression #s are Real Good.....
The rest of it will turn More money by tearing it down,+ selling it Piece by Piece.....

1986 Citation 19' 2.5L Stringer p.o.s

There's the testimony of a current Owner right there.... Piece of What, Al,..??

Sell it off,+ take the Ca$h,+ go buy a boat powered by Anybody but OMC,....
It's a Dead Company,...
It's products are mostly, Especially the old electric Stringer drives are Dead Horses.....

Re: trim tilt

Listen sell it, give it away, break it up and sell it.

Any way but don't fix it.

You didn't ask the right questions.

Re: trim tilt

Really, I am taken aback:confused: once the decking is replaced and it is painted and I have replaced the stern drive (I have found a very inexpencive one thanks to a boater near my home):). I think I can sell what is good on my outdrive and pay for the one I found. The engine runs very well. Oh it needs a transom seal and then it will be ready for the water. The lower unit runs and shifts inspite of the damage to the trim gear.

What was the right question I should have asked.
