Started out de-winterizing today in preparation for striper season. I had to replace a bad trim cylinder, which I did and when I went to bleed to system, nothing except clicks from both up and down (the tilt motor ran minutes before I started the work). This is a 1982 Mercruiser 470 with dual solonoid - 1 for up, 1 for down. I just bought the new batteries today so I know I have plenty of juice. Per the manual, I followed the test for no operation/clicking on page 531. I tested voltage at the input of both solonoids - 12v no problem. I tested voltage at the output side of the solonoid as the up/down switch was being pressed - 12v as well and 0v when not pressed. This is what I should expect. correct? The down solonoid appears to be the one clicking loudest. Am I looking at bad solonoids or should I check something else? The manual is somewhat ambiguos at this point. Is it normal for both solonoids to go bad at one time? Also - I cleaned and checked all the connections as well, so I dont think it is that.
Any help you can provide is appreciated!!! Hopefully my fishing season is not a goner!
