Sorry for all the post (all on different topics though), but now that I've found a great board, I've got lots of questions... some which I've had for a couple of years...

My '88 Invader w/ the alpha I outdrive has a quicksilver shifter. The down switch works. The up does not. The trailer button, will bring the outdrive up though. I was told that there is a sensor that is out that may be causing this. I had already replaced the switch on the shifter and that was not it.

Is the problem what my book calls the trim limit switch which is on the left side of the outdrive?

It probably is, either it's defective or way out of adjustment.

oh
a quick test to isolate it. look on the transom on the hull side. the two black double wires running from the shield to the two purple wires is the limit. dissconnect the two blacks from the two purples.(bullet connectors) hook the two purples together. if it works you know the problem is a bad switch. bad black wires to the switch or a very out of adjustment switch. I dont reccomend running with it jumped as the safty of the trim limit is bypased.

My trim up on the throttle is not working either. The down works and the toggle on the dash works. Where can I get the switch for the throttle. I looked in the MegaMall and could not find it.

wvboater,

Before you posted this last message, I tried to look back at my notes file and couldn't find it. But, then I just remembered another file where I keep stuff and here's what I got:

palmer power - (713) 644-6410
$44.50 - both switches - trailering and trim
http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypResults.py...&country=us&slt=29.643500&sln=-95.576500&cs=9

mcgill industries - trim switch for boat.
McGill Manufacturing Company.

I don't remember where I actually got it... it was a couple of years ago. I think the key is when I took it apart, I found out that mcgill industries made it. I think I used google to find out more. Try that.

here's some more I found in my notes:

www.mcgillelectrical.com/
http://www.mcgillelectrical.com/regionalsales.htm#REGION7

are you sure it's the switch and not the limit switch?

what switch do you have on your dash?

i have the toggle switch for up and down on the shifter, then the trailer button for all the way up on the shifter. there are no other switches on mine.

I have the same. A switch on the throttle, which when it reaches its limit, I have to use the toggle on the dash. For now, I have to adjust my trim with the "trailer" switch.

3 minutes testing may save 50 bucks and several hours

Re: trim up doesn't work but "trailer" does

There may be a better way, but I took the shifter apart and shorted together the two wires that would be the same as pushing "up" on the switch. Of course this was after I wasted $50 on my switch...

Re: trim up doesn't work but "trailer" does

remember
the trim switch on the shifter has a current path through the limit switch on the outdrive then to the up solinoid. the trailer switch current path is directly to the solinoid.
the limit switches fail often.
