Trim Vs Tilt

I am asking this question at the risk of seeming really stupid. I have had my 93 Bayliner 2050 open bow with a 4.3L mercruiser in the water for about 1.5 months now. It has tilt up and down buttons on one side of the throttle handle and trim up and down buttons on the other side of the throttle handle. What is the difference and how should these be used together for optimum performance? How do the each of these effect the steering?

Re: Trim Vs Tilt

tilt refers to the motor basiclly being up or down all the way. when trailering the boat, the motor would be tilted up, then when in the water you would hit tilt down to quickly lower the motor/outdrive. trim is more about finesse... raises and lowers slowly to fine tune your ride.

Trim does not always affect steering, on all boats. If it has an effect, you should feel a pull to the right (right hand prop, which is standard) at low trim angle, neutral steering at partial trim, and pull to the left with max trim.

"Let's see if the garboard drain leaks...". "Honey, gotta take the boat out!"
